A compact telephoto zoom lens providing enhanced AF performance and a minimum focusing distance of 0.95 meters is offered. This zoom lens covers focal lengths between 84.5mm and 460mm (in the 35mm format)* to cater to medium- to super-telephoto ranges. Thanks to its upgraded AF performance, it ensures quiet high-speed AF operation when shooting still images, as well as smooth AF tracking during movie recording, thereby minimizing operation noise caused by focus and aperture shifts.

The lens features a short minimum focusing distance of 0.95 meters, making it PENTAX's first K mount with an electromagnetic diaphragm control system for a quiet sound operation during movie recording. The diaphragm blades number 9, and the lens employs a rear focus system and PLM (pulse motor), direct drive lead screw system for a quiet zoom operation.

The compact telephoto zoom lens is made possible by its collapsible structure, providing weather-resistant construction. It also incorporates ED lens elements for brilliant sharpness and saturated colors, as well as an HD coating to optimize light transmittance and minimize reflection. The Quick Shift Focus System allows users to instantly change the AF mode to MF by twisting the focus ring.

Furthermore, the lens is equipped with SP (Super Protect) Coating applied to the front surface, effectively repelling water and grease. The rounded diaphragm helps to produce a beautiful bokeh effect.
